A Wedding Takeover at Proximity Hotel

a weekend surrounded by love: Carolina & Matthew

Carolina and Matthew’s Proximity Hotel wedding was a full weekend takeover designed around one simple idea: togetherness. With guests traveling from across the country, they envisioned a seamless wedding weekend where everyone could stay, celebrate, and connect under one roof.

From New York to Greensboro

Carolina and Matthew met in New York City in 2019, newly graduated and newly arrived, bonding quickly over shared North Carolina roots—Matthew from Wake Forest University and Carolina from UNC Chapel Hill. Their first date that April turned into something lasting by May, and through city life, career changes, and even the challenges of the pandemic, they built a life together side-by-side.

A Lake Tahoe Proposal Story

In August 2022, Carolina joined Matthew’s family for a trip to Lake Tahoe—her first visit to a place long loved by his family. On a quiet evening before dinner overlooking the lake, Matthew suggested arriving early for a drink and a photo by the water. Instead, Carolina turned around to find him on one knee.

Why Proximity Hotel Was the Perfect Wedding Venue

“The Proximity has always stuck in my mind as a beautiful, unique place… and it felt like the natural choice for a reception. Once we toured the space, our minds were made up!”

– Carolina

Knowing their guests would have to travel since their families live on opposite coasts, they decided on a church wedding where Carolina was raised, in Greensboro. Proximity Hotel felt like the ideal place to gather everyone together for a celebration. Touring the space confirmed it instantly.

Wedding Day Vision: Modern Whimsical

“The decor was centered around the idea of springtime in the garden with a lot of modern elements. The Proximity has so much gorgeous natural light it helped bring our concept to life.”

Bridal Style

Carolina’s wedding-day style told their story in layers—beginning with a timeless gown by Sareh Nouri that felt unmistakably like her, elevated with a custom long-sleeve topper for the church ceremony that added grace and intention. Later, she changed into a playful, sparkly reception dress by Brandon Maxwell, designed for movement and celebration, its floral details echoing the garden-inspired décor. And beneath it all, her custom “I ❤️ NY” sneakers offered the most personal touch of all—a nod to the city where their love began, blending elegance, personality, and just the right amount of modern whimsy.

A First Look

Carolina and Matthew chose to do a first look in the Bluebell Garden just outside Print Works Bistro. The moment was pure excitement—no nerves, just joy. Seeing each other before the ceremony grounded them in the day, giving Carolina a chance to show Matthew her dress and share a quiet, happy pause before everything began.

“I absolutely adored working with the events team and staff at Quaintance-Weaver. They are true professionals and handled all of our requests, questions, and concerns easily. They always responded promptly and worked seamlessly with my planner and many vendors. I never had to worry if things were handled or would end up how we hoped. I also have to mention the incredible service we and our guests received all weekend. From the moment I stepped into The Proximity on Friday, I felt like a VIP. The Proximity team also treated all of our guests like valued visitors. “
